Hospitals have been struggling with labor productivity for years1 and hospitalists specifically have seen very little increase in productivity during the previous decade.2 As healthcare organizations are continually strained with rising labor costs, high interest rates,3 and workforce shortages that are projected to become worse,4 it’s more critical than ever for hospital leaders to drive productivity increases by supporting frontline clinicians with the right resources, technologies and experience.
To address those challenges, TeamHealth embarked on a productivity redesign initiative in 2018 and ultimately built a ‘Hospital Medicine Productivity Program’ consisting of a calculator, analytics, a dashboard, coaches, a productivity toolkit with best practices, and Ingenious Med technologies for maximizing revenue.
“We wanted to make changes that were based on data,” says Rohit Uppal, MD, Chief Clinical Officer, Hospitalist Services, Team Health. Suzanne Powell, Vice President, Performance Improvement, TeamHealth: “We are leveraging historical data and experience to predict future results.”
