Is Ingenious Med ICD-10 compliant?
Yes, IM has been ready for ICD-10 since early 2014.
How can I prepare my IM database for the transition to ICD-10?
Our account managers and Professional Services teams will be reaching out to all IM clients in the spring of 2015, to discuss options for transition planning. IM will work with each of our clients to develop the most appropriate transition plan between IM and the client.
IM will document the process and timelines for ensuring any necessary system upgrades, enhancements or testing necessary for the ICD-10 transition have been completed prior to October 1, 2015.
What types of preparation or training is needed for use of my IM tools?
Clients with incoming or outgoing interfaces will need to work with IM to assess, modify and test these interfaces to confirm the appropriate handling of ICD-10 codes. This process can take between 4 to 6 weeks and must be scheduled with our Integrations team.
Physician training on the ICD-10 diagnosis search process will need to occur. While our approach is to maintain familiar workflows for the physician, there will be some minor changes to the diagnosis search. The majority of our clients will utilize a train the trainer approach, however, IM has also developed a short video demonstrating the diagnosis search process. IM is providing monthly ICD-10 preparedness webinars which will highlight the diagnosis search each month.
Back office training to IM and ICD-10 is also important. As with the physician workflow, IM is dedicated to maintaining familiar workflows for all users of our application. The basic process to our billing tools has not changed. Users will also have access to our diagnosis search video and monthly ICD-10 preparedness webinars.
IM’s Professional Services department has developed several offerings to assist our clients in the transition to ICD-10. These options include more involved services such as in-depth physician training and diagnosis gap analysis. Contact your Account Manager for more information.
How are other IM clients preparing for the transition?
Many clients are activating the ICD-10 diagnosis search for physicians sometime during the summer of 2015. Early activation of the ICD-10 search will provide an opportunity for physicians to become familiar and comfortable with the search. Billing staff will be able to see the corresponding ICD-9 code, providing an opportunity to provide feedback while not delaying the charge submission process.
Other clients are activating the ICD-10 search for both physicians and billing staff. Typically, these groups utilize a charge interface. IM will submit ICD-9 codes to the practice management system via the charge interface. Groups utilizing this approach are taking this approach in an effort to provide physician feedback and generate real world scenarios for the billing and coding teams, prior to the October 1, 2015 transition date.
Many of our clients utilize a full coder model through a billing company which confirms all codes by review of physician documentation. Some of these clients are opting to activate the ICD-10 search on October 1, 2015.
Can we still have our favorites?
IM hasn’t officially supported favorites since the release of 1.9.9; IM could support favorites post ICD-10, however, it is strongly discouraged. The increased specificity of ICD-10 codes will not always directly align with ICD-9 codes. In addition, our diagnosis search is based on IMO’s extensive library of search terms and results, negating the need for favorites as you may have known in the past.
Will there be a ‘most frequently used’ diagnosis pick list?
IM is working on functionality that will allow groups the ability to configure diagnosis templates for commonly used codes if desired. At this time, this functionality is not estimated to be completed by the ICD-10 transition.
Will there be any coding alerts for the physicians?
IM’s Development team is working on creating alerts to make the physician aware of basic coding rules such as: code also, code first, include, exclude. This is anticipated to take a phased approach – we will continue to develop and improve the basic functionality that will be present on October 1, 2015.
Can physicians see ICD-10 codes in IM before October 1, 2015?
Yes, the ICD-10 search functionality is available now. The options for activating the ICD-10 search are discussed in the transition planning calls led by the Professional Services team.
